Wisdom from the Net

October 4, 2008

As I surfed the Net this week and read countless blog posts, I collected a few quotes that stuck with me. They tickled my fancy, or inspired me to change, or flat-out rocked my world. Since I liked them enough to stick them in my personal journal, I thought someone else might enjoy them, too.

  • “Zombies do *not* knock – it has to be someone else with a brain!” said the man, excitedly.” Brett Legree http://6weeks.ca/2008/09/27/they-live/
  • “If you want your business to last, build it with your brains, not with your ass. If you want to end up with nothing but shit, stand near those who fling shit for advice. If you don’t give a damn what your life will be like in 5, 10 or 15 years, go fling some shit around.” James Chartrand http://menwithpens.ca/are-you-here-for-a-good-time-or-a-long-time
  • “Children are not our accessories, they are our tiny, silent partners for two decades of our life.” Sean Platt, Writer Dad http://writerdad.com/children/behind-their-eyes/
  • “A good idea is a good idea because it’s a good idea, not because it just happens to be Wednesday, or Halloween, or whatever the hell..” Charlie Pabst http://menwithpens.ca/are-you-here-for-a-good-time-or-a-long-time#comments
  • “You don’t teach every child, you teach the one that is right in front of you at the time.” Janice Cartier commenting on WriterDad.com http://writerdad.com/america/i-said-stop/
  • “Enjoy it while it lasts, fame is fleeting, but the Internet lasts forever.” Ferb from Disney’s Phineas and Ferb
  • “Make. Your. Words. Count.” Harrison McLeod http:menwithpens.ca/feed-reader-heaven-or-email-hell

And just in case you missed it, there was one heck of a good discussion this week over at Writer Dad’s place. Head over there and catch up the debate, then add your two cents.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!

  • Jamie, that is so sweet. Really. I had no memory of the quote. I didn't remember if I said it in the post or in the comments. I went back and reread. It was really enjoyable. I can pick out any sentence in my novel, but that's because I've lived with it. My posts are dashed off. When I revisit them, they are often surprising. The comments are even less thought out, by design, and so I never remember them. It was wonderful to read it with surprise. Surprise turned to delight. Thanks.
  • Ah Writer Dad, you are more profound than you thought! It's a pleasant and languid surprise to reread inspirations from you own writing, eh?

I have a feeling your quotes will show up here weekly, you have some wonderful thoughts.
  • Now that's an innovative way of doling out link love!
  • Harry,

What can I say, I have issues with being normal... wait, that doesn't sound right....

All three Pen Men were characteristically witty and charming this week. Just my way of thanking you for being you.
  • Jamie,

Thanks for the mention and a nice round-up of some really great stuff from the past week (wow, I'm in good company!) - I was finally able to poke about here and see what you're all about.

What a lovely site it is (kudos to the Men, another brilliant design), and you've got a lot to offer. I'll be back.

    -Brett
  • Brett,

The Pen Men truly are unique. They took what I gave them and gave back exactly what I wanted, before I knew I wanted it. Now that's good.

I love your Viking thing you have going on, very creative.

Thanks for visiting, I have big plans for this place. :D
