Update On Lori Hall-Steele

I just received notice that freelance writer Lori Hall Steele has passed away.

Through combined efforts of the online community, her friends were able to raise over $70,000 and pay off her house and her medical bills. If you donated or helped spread the word, thank you for your time and generosity.

Lori leaves behind a son, Jackson, who will continue to live in the home that you helped save. Please keep Lori’s son and her family and friends in your prayers.

Thanks, Sean. It was terrible to hear. I am just glad we could help her last days be more peaceful. Beth said that she was encouraged by the rallying financial support and love shown through the website.

I too, am saddened by this. My thoughts and prayers go out to her son Jackson and all of her family. I can’t imagine how difficult this must be, for her son especially.

Hi Lance, thanks for throwing your weight in, too. I’m sure God is already watching over little Jackson, but it can’t hurt to intercede. :)

Thanks for posting about Lori. I just wanted to clarify that Lori’s home and medical bills were not paid off. We were able to raise enough money to get her home out of foreclosure, however, that only kept it safe for the time being. The amount of monies raised (which has been in other media outlets) represents monies that were raised from a fundraiser earlier this year as well as grants that Lori received from various writing organizations. Those monies helped cover early medical expenses. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn’t confusion about how things were left. To date, Lori’s medical bills are over $100,000. Thanks again for sharing her story with your readers.

I know there are plenty of us at the Oakland Press who are saddened to read about this. Lori definitely stood out from other writers during her time here, and more importantly, she was one of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. I’m happy to see she’s had a nice support group watching her back.

Kristen, thanks for the update and the clarification. I’m glad we could help spread the word about Lori and ease her worry if even a little.

Jose, I am so sorry for your loss. It’s painful enough to hear Lori’s tale without knowing her. She seemed like such a vibrant and talented young woman. I am sure she has many friends and co-workers who will grieve her passing for quite some time.
