For me, going to Church is as close as people might ever get and still miss the point about what is means to be part of God's family; participating in his kingdom here and now, for this world. Solely focusing on personal salvation (my individual relationship with God) helps to miss the point, at least I think, or we could say is only one aspect to the bigger picture found in the broad teaching of scripture. Neat observations, I think I see what you're trying to get at. People have to determine if Christianity about a rules game/ set a doctrines one must believe so they can go to heaven after death? People make it about that while not understanding the role and message of ancient Christian writings.
